Service Description

Class Dates: 12-1:30pm, March 16th-20th Description: During this week long class, students will be meeting Monday-Friday for an hour and a half to learn how to draw basic human body proportions and gesture drawing to recreate provided reference images. We will spend time learning about body proportions, portraiture, and the intricacies of drawing different body parts. **We will be using reference images of dancers, models and athletes in motion. The provided references will include men and women in various forms of dress, ex. Leotards, ballet shorts, sports bras and athleticwear. This is to be sure students experience how to not only view the body as an artform, but also to view the whole body in this exercise and its proportions without the added stress of incorporating loose clothing and the element of guessing. This workshop is great for young artists who are interested in realism, character design, and animation in order to build an understanding of how the human body looks and moves in relation to its environment. The instructor, Elizabeth Suriani’s, way of teaching includes not only learning the “rules” behind art, but finding ways to make it fun, experimental, and playful in a capacity that allows for students’ personal strengths to be at the forefront of their creative process along with it being a well rounded learning experience. Elizabeth Suriani is a local Loveland artist and Thompson Valley Alumni. Her studio is in downtown Loveland at Artworks Center for Contemporary Art and she has worked with the LISA program and Thompson Valley AP students in the past. Suriani has spoken at TVHS and MVHS along with her college and BFA program at University of Wyoming. She has taught art, drawing human anatomy, and portraiture to students ages 11-18 since 2020 with students both online and in person. In her own artwork and business practice, she is an oil painter and specializes in similar themes and subject matter. Class Schedule: Monday, 16th: Proportions/Front and back muscles Tuesday, 17th: Portrait proportion diagram/ Portrait reference Wednesday, 18th: Arms and hands/ movement reference Thursday, 19th: Legs and feet / movement references Friday, 20th: Male and female torsos ** Drawing material kits are included in the cost though students will need to bring a sketchbook or drawing pad of their choice.
