Atropa Belladonna

Atropa Belladonna is an in-progress series based around the historical uses of plants and their poisons. I am gradually researching how these plants affect the human body and how they were used by the masses; namely, how women would use these poisons in their own lives for their own health or protection.

I aim to incorporate the human body and its relationship with the plant and the natural world using figurative paintings along with layering laser cut acrylic forms of poisonous plants to create an artwork that is both beautiful but deadly. A contemporary memento mori.
