Does this feel familiar? Have you been here before?

 

This new series, Somnia Mundi, creates a landscape of collective painted dream states involving the surrender between the superimposed figure and the physical environment. This creates a sense of familiarity that has been seen before but quickly forgotten once waking. Always giving that feeling of limbo. 

 

The falling figures are painted to emulate a sense of calm or dread. Did they fall? Did they jump? They leave us consistently at a crossroads between feeling soothed and uncomfortable; creating a feeling like we have a calming loss of control and are collectively waiting for something to change. 

 

Superimposing the figures over the landscape in a fashion that appears false further emphasizes a surreal landscape and dream state. Perspectives are different, lighting isn’t the same, proportions are slightly off. This is enough to leave the viewer interested but slightly off kilter and questioning the painting's reality.
